The BSTF aim to keep students informed of all scheduled activities as soon as details become available, with the following events generally occuring each year:

  • October - The Cambridge Open
  • October/November - The BSTF AGM
  • December - One-day Fight Camp
  • February - The Birmingham Open
  • March - The BSTF National Championships (at host university)
  • April - BSTF Three-day Easter Fight Camp
  • June/July - BSTF trip to Korea
  • August - Hungary Training Camp (Universum Taekwondo Association)
  • The BSTF AGM

The BSTF Auual General Meeting (AGM) is where all university clubs are invited to discuss the future of student Taekwondo, elect the 'new' BSTF Committee for the following year, and generally discuss any current issues.

    BSTF One-day Fight Camp

The BSTF One Day Fight Camp is the first time in the annual calendar where students can train (and make friends...) with students from other university clubs. A shorter version of the BSTF Easter Fight Camp in Aylesbury, this event is extremely popular and boasts a high pedigree of instruction.

    The BSTF National Championships

The BSTF National Champioships are held annually by a host university which bids for the honour of hosting this prestigious event. Each year they get bigger and better, with around 300 competitors from 30 University clubs. Traditionally, the competition is held during the first weekend of March.

The BSTF encourage all university clubs to bid to host the event. If your university club are interested in hosting the BSTF National Championships, please contact the BSTF as early as possible so we can assist you with your bid (preferably the preceeding year). A comprehensive set of information and templates can be made available for use in organising the competition to help with your application process, as well as help you decide whether or not to bid.

    BSTF Three-day Easter Fight Camp

The Easter Holidays see Ayelsbury stadium booked for the annual BSTF Fight Camp. Many University Clubs come together to train and live together for a weekend of hard training, receiving instruction from some of the highest practitioners of Taekwondo in the country. All aspects of Taekwondo are covered, from Sport Taekwondo and vigorous cardio training, to Poomsae (patterns) and self defence. Many friends are made, and this is a great way for clubs and instructors to meet and train together instead of only meeting in the rivalry of competition.

    BSTF trip to Korea

For the last few years, Head Coach Master Suh (7 th Dan international Kukkikwon representative) organised an elite training trip for avid Taekwondo enthusiasts. Past years have seen special lessons arranged at the Kukkikwon (the famous home of WTF Taekwondo) as well as entry to International Competitions in Korea . The trip also provides a chance for students to experience Korean culture, sample Korean food, festivals, art and heritage.

Unfortunately, with the tragic sudden passing of Master Suh in February 2010, the event has been put on hold. However, the BSTF hope to provide future opportunities to university students to travel to Korea, the home of Taekwondo.

    Hungary Training Camp

The Hungary Summer Training Camp is organised by the Universum Hungarian Taekwondo Association which invites the BSTF to descend en-masse to a leisure resort for sun, sea and Taekwondo. The event lasts 6 days with university teams spending time in Budapest either side of the camp. High-level Hungarian and British Taekwondo instructors are present, with the event being the BSTF version of the famous ‘tour' that other university sports host. As many as 100 students from the UK have attended the Camp which is thoroughly enjoyed by all, and certainly a highlight of the BSTF calendar.

The British Student Taekwondo Federation has been organising events and competitions for Taekwondo students in British universities since 1987.
